Sherri Marting , 2006 Board Prize Recipient
Kala Art Institute congratulates Sherri Martin as the recipient of 2006 Kala Board Prize
Yuzo Nakano, Kala’s Artistic Director, selected Sherri Martin’s exhibition proposal from a large number of talented applicants. Sherri, a recent MFA graduate from the San Francisco Art Institute, will be presenting a large-scale installation constructed entirely from paper. Through a combination of delicate ink drawings and paper sculpture her installation suggests a magical forest panorama filled with a disorienting mix of floating rocks and somewhat menacing owls.
The 2006 Kala Board Prize exhibition will be on view in the Kala Gallery from October 26 – November 25, 2006. Please join us for the reception for Sherri Martin on Thursday, October 26, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
This annual exhibition is devoted to the discovery and introduction of emerging artists and under-recognized California-resident artists working in printmaking, photography, video, installation, sculpture and painting. A generous cash award donated by Kala’s Board of Directors accompanies the exhibition.
Previous recipients have included Midori Harima in 2004 and a group exhibition by David Hamill, Jonn Herschend and Sarah Smith in 2005.
