BOARD PRIZE

Kala Art Institute presents its third annual “Call for Entries” competition for California artists. The competition consists of an exhibition at the Kala Gallery and a cash award honorarium. Artists may apply for a one-person exhibition or submit a group exhibition proposal. The exhibition will be presented from October 26 - November 25, 2006. The competition is open to California-resident artists working in printmaking, photography, video, installation, sculpture and painting. This exhibition and award is devoted to the discovery and introduction of emerging artists and under-recognized artists who are currently residents of California. Juried by Yuzo Nakano, Kala’s Artistic Director, exhibition proposals must include the following:

• Completed application form
• One page proposal for individual or group exhibition.
• Artist statement
• Resume (please limit to two pages)
• 10 images of current work relevant to the exhibition
proposal. Please do not send actual artwork.
Images may be submitted in the following formats:
35mm slides, CD-R, DVD, photographs or digital prints of artwork. Video and sound artists must present at least 3 work samples on: VHS/SVHS, Mini DV, CD-R, or DVD. Limited to 5 minutes for each sample.
• A corresponding image list with artist’s name, title of
work, media and dimensions.
• A self-addressed stamped envelope for return of
materials. Application materials will not be returned
without a SASE.

Proposals are due in the Kala office on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 by 5:00 pm.

Competition winners will be notified by phone or mail. No phone calls. Please check Kala’s website www.kala.org for competition results. Kala will retain the selected proposals and slides or work samples for our records.

A reminder - applicants must currently be a California resident.
