Camp Kala • Acrylic Painting: Fantasy in the Frame • Ages 11-17

Learn the basics of painting (with a twist) as we develop our own imaginative and fantastical characters to bring to life with acrylic paint! We will move from paper to 3D forms to the canvas as we explore color theory, still life painting, creating physical references for paintings, and more. Through a mixed media approach, participants will work on their observational drawing/painting skills and challenge their notions of image-making as they move through both 2D and 3D art. All levels are welcome.

All levels are welcome; Instruction is provided to meet each student’s interests, needs, and strengths.

About the Instructor:

Krista Wright is an artist and educator based in the Bay Area. She has been an educator and an administrator for youth art programs for the past 3 years, including for the Pre-College Program and Young Artist Program at San Francisco Art Institute, and Community Youth Center After School Programs (SFUSD). Her work centers on re-imagining imaginary friends from the past and placing them in the present. In her printmaking work, she creates the lore for her creatures; with sculptural work, she brings them into the 3rd dimension; and in her paintings, she places these creatures in everyday scenarios.
