Camp Kala Online • The Comics Lab: A Journey into Visual Storytelling • Ages 11-17

Students will be introduced to the process, tools and technique for creating their own graphic stories and characters. They will learn about different text/ image relationships, layout and panel structure and will incorporate these concepts into their own creations. From writing, through sketching to inking and color students will follow this unique process to tap into their own creativity and explore new exciting ways to bring stories to life.

Tuition includes art supplies that can be picked up curbside at Kala or shipped to you for an additional fee. Classes are twice a day from 10 – 11:30 am and 1- 2:30 pm with a break in between to enjoy lunch and free time.

About the Instructor:

Yael Levy is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and educator from Houston, Texas. Morton’s writing and artistic practices are entwined and often focus on (re)contextualization, subversion, and affect. Her most recent research takes a particular interest in linguistics, sound, and the boundaries of the body. Her studio practice employs the tactics of drawing in space, to build loosely figurative sculptures and videos. She has taught art to young people at SFMOMA, Art4Life, and Art Mix Creative Learning Center. Morton received her BFA and BA in Biological-Anthropology from UC-Santa Barbara, and an MFA and MA in Visual and Critical Studies from the California College of the Arts.
