Capturing Character 1: A Study of Portraitwork (ONLINE)

The purpose of this class is to lay a foundation to create a variety of portraits of their own. We will be looking at the importance of an illustrated portrait, how people are summarized over time from antiquity to twitter profile pictures. This class will look at three important aspects of the subject in a portrait: the Face and the Body. Throughout, we will consider the effect of lighting, dimensions, detail, and tone. This class is suitable for beginners!

Consider, that while we will be referencing photography, this is centered on the drawing/painting of portraits. Students will create several portraits throughout the class, most of them human, but there will be time to experiment with human-ish forms.
