Capturing Character 2: Oops All Creatures! (ONLINE)

The purpose of this class is to expand and play with traditional elements of portraits. We will be looking at the importance of an illustrated portrait, for purposes of fictional world building. This class will play with three important aspects of the subject in a portrait: the Face, the Body, and the Setting. Throughout, we will consider the effect of lighting, dimensions, detail, and tone. This is an intermediate/advanced course. Participants should have a reasonable grasp of human anatomy and shading.
Consider, that while we will be referencing photography and other fictional work, this is centered on the drawing/painting of in-human portraits. Students should expect to create several portraits, practice visual literacy and comprehension, and learn how to read a person’s likeness and develop it into a finished work with varying styles and timelines.
