About the Instructor:

Dara Lorenzo was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She attended West Virginia University for Painting, and received her B.S in Printmaking from Towson University in 2008. She has an MFA in Printmaking from San Francisco Art Institute. Her work explores the claiming of spaces, through treading and marking also the layering of memories through multiple printmaking and mixed media process. There is also the incorporation of the importance of narrative in our lives using words and obscure prose that can be powerful. Focusing on the expressive forms found in carving, writing, construction and deconstruction, and music: her work discovers the subtle or strong human connections. She remains a California based artist since 2012, and teaches the art program at a charter elementary school:Cox Academy. Dara also teaches adult printmaking workshops and classes throughout The Bay Area at art institutions like Richmond Art Center and U.C Berkeley Extension. Her latest venture is the opening of Mise en Place Gallery in Downtown Oakland where she is the Curator and Resident Artist.
