This workshop explores basic letterpress typesetting and printing on a Vandercook cylinder proof press. Explore Kala’s extensive collection of antique type and get an introduction to the history of hand-set type and related terminology. You will learn to set type, lock-up a press, mix inks, and to operate and print on the Vandercook press.
Lisa Rappoport publishes letterpress-printed poetry broadsides and artist’s books under the imprint Littoral Press. Her poetry has appeared in Five Fingers Review, Literal Latté, and elsewhere. In 2010 EtherDome published a double chapbook of her poems, Figments/Aftermaths. Lisa has taught at the San Francisco Center for the Book, New College in San Francisco, a middle school in Lafayette, and in her own West Oakland studio. Her artist’s books have been widely displayed and collected. She is represented by Donna Seager Gallery and Vamp and Tramp Booksellers. www.littoralpress.com
