Night School is a class series based around themes. In each class of the Night School, artist instructors will explore and illuminate the class theme with brief lectures, fast projects and exciting assignments.
Night School takes on the large topic fullness to emptyness and everything between in this exciting session. We utilize negative sapce and postive space, vessels and containers, vaccums and black holes, and more in a series of excercises and projects. During the course of the class there will be diverse range of media including: printmaking, collage, painting, drawing, and paper mache.
Emma Spertus received her MFA from Hunter College in New York for Combined Media in 2008 and her BA from Macalester College in 2001. Spertus works in a variety of media including installation, printmaking, sculpture, and drawing. Her work has been most recently exhibited at the Dorsky Gallery in Long Island City, White Columns in New York, The Lab in San Francisco, and MacArthur B Arthur and Important Projects of Oakland. She has been selected to be a 2012 Artist in Residence at Headlands Center for the Arts. Spertus was a founding member of local art space Rock Paper Scissors Collective and currently manages Real Time and Space, an arts studio and art residency in Oakland. www.emmaspertus.com
