Mixed Media Collage Techniques: Paper, Fabric, Analog, Digital

Fragmenting, manipulating, and reassembling imagery and textures can be extremely generative for beginning or developing an established art practice. In this class series, we will explore the powerful histories of collage art and practice various approaches to the versatile craft. Throughout the sessions, we will experiment with a range of collage image making techniques, incorporating found images, mixing media, and extending our explorations to alternative materials as well as the digital screen. Approached with an adventurous spirit, projects will include photographic manipulation, layered image transfer techniques, and explore applications of collage in other fields like graphic design and sculpture. We will also practice methods for creating our own collage materials such as patterned papers using painting and printmaking techniques. Artists of all backgrounds and disciplines are encouraged to integrate collage principles into their work by enrolling in this course.
