Photopolymer Plate Gravure

In this course, participants will learn how to make positive film with and without Photoshop (non-digital process). Participants will then use the film to make intaglio/etching polymer plates, both machine made and manual processes. Inking and printing sessions in this course will cover related techniques such as color inking, texturing, and chine-collé like collage. No previous Photoshop experience is required; printmaking experience is helpful but not required – all levels are welcome!

About the Instructor:

Kazuko Watanabe has worked in print media for over twenty years. She has researched and developed three-dimensional prints, print sculpture, the use of intaglio in artist’s books and the combination of traditional print media with computer techniques. In 1999, she received the Library Fellows Award from the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. In 2001, her work was selected for the “Print National” exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York.
