Soft Ground Etching

This class is an in-depth course of a printmaking technique closely related to drawing. It explores all aspects of soft ground etching and its combination with aquatint, chine colle, and drawing. You will learn about line and tone etching, shape and texture transfer, and also create faithful images of objects that can be pressed into soft wax. As a contemporary use of the expanded field of art making this course opens up connections to other related genres as well.

About the Instructor:

Theodora Varnay Jones received her BFA and MFA from The Academy of Fine Arts, Budapest, Hungary. She is recipient of numerous awards from museums, universities and other institutions throughout the US, Europe, Asia, and South America. She has recently exhibited at Stanford University, San Jose ICA, Fresno Art Museum, Don Soker Gallery, and Seattle Art Museum Gallery. She has lectured and taught at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Kyoto Seika University in Japan, and at UC Davis.
