Sustainable Artist Strategies

What does a sustainable art practice look like? What does it mean to make a life as an artist in the Bay Area? This workshop is designed to support your professional development alongside your personal growth. We will take a group coaching approach—structured, facilitated, non-judgmental, inquiry-based conversations—to explore what really matters to you as an artist. Feeling stuck or unsure? This workshop will help you get unstuck and identify your next steps. Grow your confidence, gain clarity on your goals and intentions in your creative practice. Learn tools and strategies for creating an achievable action plan to help move your practice forward. Participants can expect playful and practical conversations, drawing and writing exercises, and group sharing. This workshop is open to all levels of artists.

About the Instructor:

Alice Wu is a multidisciplinary artist and creative business coach. She has exhibited at Kala, Southern Exposure, Exit Art, Bronx Museum, among others. Alice’s costume designs for dance and theater have appeared at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Dance Theater Workshop, and ODC. Alice taught at Studio in a School, Community School for Art and Music, Yale University, and Krabbesholm Højskole. Alice co-founded Feral Childe (2002-2015), a wearable art project and clothing line that created participatory performances for venues such as MAK Center/Schindler House, Fritz Haeg’s Sundown Salon, High Desert Test Sites, Santa Fe Art Institute.

Alice’s past roles at Kala, San Francisco Arts Commission, and NIAD Art Center include art sales, public programs, exhibitions, fundraising, development. Alice guest curated exhibitions for Legion Projects and Chinese Culture Center. Alice earned a BA from Wellesley and an MFA from Yale, received coach training at UC Davis, and holds accreditation by the International Coaching Federation.
