Fall 2020 Update: Arts Enrichment Online
Kala teaching artists nurture students’ curiosity and creativity; student dive into the creative process, while learning, experimenting, reflecting and collaborating. Teaching artists engage with students with heart and intention, to create fun yet thoughtful, and interactive hands-on art making activities using a range of materials and techniques. Current Arts Enrichment Online programs for students is listed below, September-December 2020.


Art Inside Out/Outside In
Join us for a series of fun and interactive classes that explore art, community engagement, and the relationship between the built environment and the natural environment! Using a variety of media such as color pencil, collage, photography, and watercolor, students will create colorful and dynamic drawings, paintings, and sculptures inspired by nature and household objects that make up our spaces inside and out. Working indoors and the outdoors, students will develop their observational and artistic skills, learn to draw from nature and still lifes, identify different plant life/objects in the area, learn about maps, cool diverse artists and artworks, and more!

Arte y Cultura: Folk Art from Latin America
Explore art as a creative expression of culture! In this interactive class, students will explore art, design, color, line, pattern, and shapes through folk art from Latin America. Students will learn how these artworks communicate ideas, values, history and culture, and create their own meaningful stories. Students will use a variety of media such as watercolor, color pencils, yarn, and paper to create collages, drawings, and paintings inspired by such works as the molas (Kuna/Panama), huichol yarn paintings (Huichol/Mexico), alebrijes (Mexico), and more! Students will discover their own connections to these intricate, colorful, and symbolic artworks!

Spanish speakers/learners, and ELL students are encouraged to participate.

Virtual Trial Days
We want your child to experience our program so your family can decide if it is the best fit for them. We schedule trial days on a space-available basis. Single trial day is $22 (60 min) for the K-5 class .  If you then sign up for the program, your total tuition will be prorated for the time remaining in our year.

Trial Day tuition does not include art supplies. You will receive a list of supplies to be used on that day, which may include drawing paper, construction paper, pencil, scissors, eraser, color pencils, crayons, markers, and glue. If families need access to such supplies, please contact . We have a limited amount of gently used art materials we can provide but only for Curbside Pickup. Enrollment Options During the Academic Year: Fall (August 2020) & Spring (December 2020)
Fall 2020 semester online arts enrichment program enrollment is now open for after school arts on Thursdays and Fridays,  depending on the age group. At this time, we do not offer programming during school holidays, no-school days, etc. In general, we follow the Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) calendar. Spring arts enrichment online (after school) will open in December 2020.

Break Dates
November 23- 27: Thanksgiving Break
December 21- January 1: Winter Break
April 3-9: Spring Break

Mid-Season Enrollment
We offer rolling mid-session enrollment, when space is available, and prorate tuition based on the actual number of remaining days in the program.

Multi-child / Multi-session Discount
Enroll 2 kids, 2 days per week, or 2  sessions  during the year and save 10%.

Payment
Your total tuition will be based on the actual number of days in the BUSD calendar on the day of your program. If you select the payment plan option, 10% of the tuition (based on selected sessions) is due at the time of enrollment, then the balance will be divided into equal monthly payments, regardless of the number of classes in that specific month. Payments are automatically debited on the first day of the month from September-June. If you are enrolling mid-year, please contact us to request that your payment be pro-rated from the time you enroll through the remainder of the school year.

Cancellation & Withdrawal Policy
Please note that registrations are for a full academic year, however, we do allow mid-season withdrawals per our youth arts cancellation and withdrawal policy. Kala reserves the right to cancel any class due to low enrollment or other circumstances.
