Malcolm T. Smith

Berkeley, CA

Malcolm T. Smith is a self-described mediatic performance and installation artist whose disorienting works blur the boundaries between magic and tricks, theater and ritual.  Malcolm’s technological and live action performance works, coupled with mythic stories, form laboratory-like installations. Often working remotely with international collaborators, the “perfomedia” productions investigate cultural dislocations and the breakdown of symbolic representation. Malcolm received his MFA in Visual Arts from Rutgers University. His work has been presented in numerous international video and performance festivals in addition to gallery exhibitions throughout the United States, South America and Europe. Malcolm received a prestigious Fulbright Award that included a 2005-2006 theater residency in Bogotá, Colombia.
