An introduction to monoprinting for practicing artists who have developed their own imagery and ideas, but have not yet worked in this medium. Learn all the basics Ð manipulation, tonal composition, registration. Participants begin with monochromatic prints and work towards multi-drop and multi-color prints. Color theory is discussed. Especially relevant to artists working in realism, though artists working in all styles are welcome. This class works with solvent-based (oil) printmaking inks. Enrollment is limited to 7 students.
The accomplished James (Jamie) Morgan, has exhibited his realist works at the Barclay Simpson Gallery in Lafayette, the Oakland Museum*s Collectors Gallery, and at invitational exhibitions with the California Society of Printmakers . Currently represented by the Hang Gallery in San Francisco. He was awarded a Creative Work Fund Grant in 1996 for a mural project at the Laguna Honda Hospital in San Francisco and a commission for a mural at the Highland Hospital Pediatric Clinic in 2000. At present, he teaches art , printmaking and mural painting in public schools throughout the Bay Area. A 1999 Kala Fellowship winner, Jamie received a BA in classic studies from Stanford. His MFA. is from the California College of Arts and Crafts.

Building on processes covered in the Beginning Level workshop, artists work toward developing a greater fluency in multi-drop color prints, while focusing on integrating ideas and expression into their technique. Critical feedback on the work is provided. This class works with solvent-based (oil) printmaking inks. Prerequisite is MonoprintsÐBeginning Level or comparable experience.
Jamie Morgan earned his B.A from Stanford University in Classics, and a MFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts. Exhibitions of his work include the Barclay Simpson Fine Arts Gallery in Lafayette, the Oakland Museum Collectors Gallery, the Bartlett Fine Arts Gallery in Lafayette and the California Society of Printmakers. In 2002, he exhibited work at the Berkeley Civic Center and SFMOMA Gallery. Currently represented by the Hang Gallery of San Francisco and Palo Alto, he received a Creative Work Fund Grant in 1996, and was commissioned to create a mural at Oakland's Highland Hospital Pediatric Clinic in 2000. A 1999 Kala Fellow, Jamie also teaches printmaking and mural-making to children in the East Bay public schools for Kala.s Artists-in-the-Schools Program.
