Class #40: June 4-5: Saturday - Sunday 10am - 4pm
Tuition $180 Materials $45 Total Cost $225
This studio-based class focuses on the techniques used for encaustic painting, a process that uses wax to carry pigment. Because of its translucency, the wax can be embedded with layers of papers and found objects. Safety and shop practices, basic tools and techniques, traditional priming techniques, oil paint creation, and a variety of paint application processes will be covered. Students will be provided with the knowledge needed to use this medium in their own studio. Class is conducted at JFK University Arts Annex, next door to Kala. No prior experience with encaustic required, but knowledge of oil painting techniques is highly recommended. Enrollment is limited to 15 students.
