wa-ter \ 1a: the liquid that descends from the clouds as rain, forms streams, lakes and seas, and is a major constituent of all living matter. 2a: water covers 70% of the world we inhabit and serves as a timeless source of inspiration and subject matter for artists.

    Water World explores photographic-based images of water by a diverse group of artists. Working in combinations of photography, digital imaging and video, each artist presents a uniquely personal perspective on the various ways we see and think about water.

    Jan Wilson Kaufman 's photographs, taken from behind the wheel of a car rolling through a car wash, produce memorable and mysterious abstract images;
    Susan Magnus' large-scale digital work depicts a stunning multi-panel grid comprised of ocean maps scanned from vintage National Geographic magazines;
    Lara Odell 's New York winter scenes of empty swimming pools buried under a blizzard of snow illustrates water in a variety of states over time;
    Unai San Martin's black and while photographs, taken during surfing treks along the California coast, capture the feeling of ocean swells and the sensation of being swept away by the tides;
    Seattle-based Marci Tackett's underwater photographs of what appear to be floating headless figures juxtaposes the absurdity and elegant weightlessness of the figure in water;
    Katherine Westerhout's photographs depict seeping water as an aspect of the overtaking of natural forces in large-scale images of decaying industrial sites;
    and John Wilson White's video installation explores the relationship of the water user to the water source in his presentation of an animated video loop of a yearís worth of precipitation falling in the Hetch Hetchy watershed region.
