The James D. Phelan Art Awards (2005)

The James D. Phelan Art Awards were established by the trust of James D. Phelan, a former San Francisco Mayor, United States Senator and arts supporter. The James D. Phelan Art Awards recognize the achievements of California-born artists in a variety of disciplines. Awards are presented to artists working in film, photography, video and printmaking and are part of the Art Awards Program of The San Francisco Foundation. The Kala Art Institute administers the printmaking call for entries competition and also sponsors an exhibition of the award-winning artists. This year’s juror for the printmaking competition was Janet Bishop, Curator of Painting and Sculpture, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

The recipients of the 2005 James D. Phelan Art Award in Printmaking are:

Jesse Gottesman, San Francisco, CA
Cynthia Ona Innis, Oakland, CA
