POLAROID IMAGE TRANSFER PRINTING
Matthew O'Brien
6 hour workshop
Class #16: March 13: Sunday 10am - 4pm
Tuition $90 Materials $27 Total Cost $117

Polaroid image transfer is a simple process that can transform your existing 35 mm slide images into beautiful prints on a variety of fine art papers. It is not a darkroom process, and can be done with the windows open, the lights on, and with minimal equipment. In this one-day workshop, we will become acquainted with the equipment and process, and then explore methods for creating the soft, muted look of Polaroid image transfers. Please bring lots of 35 mm slides; the instructor will help you determine which are likely to lend themselves to successful transfer. Enrollment is limited to 10 students.

Matthew O'Brien's photography celebrates humanity and the natural world. In 2002, the Bedford Gallery exhibited On the Land, a retrospective of his twelve years photographing the urbanization of the rural East Bay and the interaction between the ranching community and the surrounding nature. The show included fifty Polaroid image transfer prints. He just completed a commission from the Alameda County Arts Commission to create a photographic portrait of Alameda County. He's now at work on a book about the Oakland public schools, which combines his black and white photographs with text created by students.
