Artist-in-Residence Program

Covid 19 Updates

We are staying up to date with operating while Covid-19 is our reality. Please sign up for our newsletter, follow us on Instagram, and Facebook to stay up to date with our residency program! Stay Safe!

Artists working in various printmaking techniques, photo-processes, book arts and digital media including video production can apply to become an Artist-in-Residence. Residency applications are accepted online three times per year. Artists who apply for a residency should be familiar with at least one of the media and equipment offered at Kala. Considerations for acceptance are conceptual creativity and technical knowledge.

Resident artists receive year-round 24-hour access to the printmaking workshop, digital lab, black and white darkroom, individual storage space, small project spaces (if available), possible exposure on Kala’s website and in other exhibitions at Kala or outside exhibition spaces, and participation in a vital, international artistic community. Artists also receive a 20% discount on classes and private tutoring offered by Kala. Please note that that Kala now offers limited housing; 2 private bedrooms in a two bedroom fully furnished apartment located across the street from Kala’s facilities. Housing is limited and adds an additional fee to artist residency contracts. An additional housing list is available from local community members who rent out space in their homes. In this case, artists are responsible for finding their own housing.

Are you an artist-in-residence alumni looking to return?  Please email Kala’s Artist Residency Manager, at least 2-3 months in advance of the dates you’d like to come back to Kala.
