For current Kala artists-in-residence, Boris Scherbakov is no stranger. Since October 2011, he has been an AIR at Kala and he can often be found burning the midnight oil in the Kala Print Studio, sitting intently at the Epson 9900, printing out large-scale photographs from his travels around the globe. In March 2012, we hired Boris to become the new Facility Coordinator as Dan Bacci was leaving to relocate to Los Angeles. What struck everyone on the hiring committee, besides Boris’s vast technical knowledge and strong work ethic, was his genuine desire to work and contribute to Kala’s artistic community and mission. Boris is that rare breed that is both conversant and comfortable with analog and digital technologies. Or as he puts it, “I am fluent with anything with buttons, knobs, cables, and LEDs, ranging from establishing and troubleshooting wireless networks to setting up audio and video presentations.”
Boris received a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Carleton College in 2008. He won the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Circle Award in Photography in 2007. He has a very charming and adorable dog named Jaime, plus he can do 20 pull-ups in a row, smiling the entire time.
Welcome Boris and Jaime to Kala!
