The Kala Art Institute Board of Directors is pleased to announce Executive Director Archana Horsting is the recipient of a 2012 Alameda County Arts Leadership Award. This award by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors and the Alameda County Arts Commission acknowledges her commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Alameda County, providing leadership in the arts, and serving as a role model to others.
Archana Horsting and Yuzo Nakano co-founded Kala Art Institute in 1974 with one etching press and a single hotplate in a garage. For nearly four decades, with tenacity, vision and unwavering commitment to Kala’s mission to support the creative work of artists and to share this work with the public, Archana has led the efforts to build the Institute into the multifaceted creative hub it is today, actively serving a large and diverse community.
The award recipients will be honored by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors through a commendation ceremony presented in conjunction with the County’s celebration of California Arts Day and National Arts and Humanities Month on Tuesday, October 2, 2012.
The event will take place at the Alameda County Administration Building, Board Chambers, 1221 Oak Street, 5th floor, Oakland. For more information and to RSVP contact Rachel Osajima, Alameda County Arts Commission, at (510) 271-5162 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
