Position Opening – Founding Executive Director

The Oakland Noodle Factory performance art center and work/live project is looking for a Start up Executive Director. The Noodle Factor is is scheduled to open in Spring 2008 and will offer permanently affordable living, working and performance/exhibition space for resident artists and artisans.

The position will be part time and will includes some evening and weekend hours.
Annual salary will range from $33,000 to $41,000 (FTE) depending on experience and there will be health and vacation Benefits.

The right candidate for this job will be a self-starter with the vision to start up the Noodle Factory Performing Arts Center in a new professional caliber performance space in West Oakland. This position will involve both setting up the administrative and financial structure of the new organization, as well as, programming the inaugural season of performances in the new space. Must be self-motivated, disciplined, and able to work both independently and collaboratively with the Noodle Factory Arts Advisory Board and NCLT staff, artists using the space, and the public. This position is for a highly motivated individual eager to get in on the ground-floor of creating a dynamic, new arts organization.

The Noodle Factory Performing Arts Center will be a non-profit interdisciplinary arts organization, which supports the development and presentation of new performing and media art, music and interdisciplinary work. The Center will showcase work of the highest quality by emerging and underrepresented experimental artists, as well as program established, well-known artists. Of particular interest is work, which crosses boundaries, encourages evolving artistic and social dialogue between artists and audiences, and develops the culture and community of the San Francisco Bay Area.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
DEVELOPMENT AND FUNDRAISING

· Write grants for general operating funds and commissioning / specific curatorial projects. Perform invoicing and reporting for grants.

· Plan and direct Capital campaign fundraising events with support from NCLT Staff and Noodle Arts Advisory Board members.

· Identify, cultivate, and solicit major individual donors.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

· Develop annual budget for Board approval.

· Prepare and present financial information and reports for grant applications, funders and to the Board at monthly meetings.

· Set up and institute administrative systems for future oversight of day-to-day operations of budget, including accounting and bookkeeping records, preparation of tax reports, bank deposits, petty cash, payment of invoices, monthly bank account reconciliation, preparation of material for CPA-conducted annual financial review, insurance, fiscal agent and rental agreements

ARTISTIC PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

· Program the inaugural season of performances, events, and commissioned pieces (from March’08 through Summer ’09)

· Establish relationships and contracts with community/arts organizations for educational programming of space

· Negotiate and draft artist contracts

OTHER

· Manage administration/development interns and volunteers.

· Attend Board Meetings and work with sub-committees as needed.

· Staff performances and events. Ensure the security of the facility.

· Build relationships with other community organizations

· Coordinate concessions, sponsorships, and product donations for performances and special events.

QUALIFICATIONS : Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree and demonstrated experience in grant writing, fundraising, financial management, and office administration. Applicants must be familiar with contemporary performing arts, and preferably the San Francisco arts community. Applicants must demonstrate:

· Diplomacy and coalition building skills are a must.

· Flexibility and ability to take input from various stakeholders in forming the identity of the space.

· Ability to reach out & build an audience based upon programming the inaugural season.
