Call for Applications – Arts Advisor – Pangnirtung Community Print Collection 2008

The Uqqurmiut Centre for Arts & Crafts in Pangnirtung, Nunavut is seeking a well-qualified individual to serve as arts advisor to the Pangnirtung printmakers during the initial production phase of the 2008 Pangnirtung Community Print Collection to take place during the period of March 2-24, 2008.

The role of the arts advisor is multi-faceted and includes working closely with the Pangnirtung Inuit printmakers in exploring new techniques, selecting suitable imagery, providing advice and technical assistance as images are translated into limited-edition fine-art prints, and assisting in setting production schedules and deadlines.

The arts advisor also acts as a liaison with both the Print Shop manager and the General Manager of the Uqqurmiut Centre for Arts & Crafts, providing information about materials, supplies, equipment and overall shop organization. The arts advisor will work on-site in the Pangnirtung Print Shop during the month of March. Accommodations at the local hotel will be provided.

Interested individuals are requested to submit a covering letter,
outlining in detail their relevant qualifications and ideas for working
with the printmakers no later than February 1, 2008. Criteria are
outlined below. Please also include a copy of your current resume and CV
indicating training, experience, exhibition history, and any other
relevant qualifications. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact
the General Manager in Pangnirtung to discuss the position prior to
applying.

The successful candidate should meet the following criteria:

* Range of experience, training and other qualifications related to fine-art printmaking
* Particular knowledge and expertise in the areas of lithography, intaglio, stencil, relief and other methods of fine-art printmaking
* Practicing professional artist with knowledge of art markets and marketable imagery
* Wide range of exhibition experience including group and solo print exhibitions, both national and international
* Ability to work with staff, printmakers and artists under pressure to help complete and deliver the collection in a timely manner
* Willing and able to meet to the challenges of working in an intercultural setting, where English is not the first language
* Ability to get along well with individuals in this unique setting
* Willing and available to travel to Pangnirtung and work on-site during the period March 2-24, 2008

The following criteria are considered additional assets, and will receive special consideration from the Printmakers Committee:

* Previous experience teaching printmaking, drawing, painting, design, etc.
* Previous experience in the North
* Ability to speak Inuktitut
* Knowledge of the history of Inuit printmaking
* Prior knowledge of and interest in the Pangnirtung Community Print Collection
* Experience in day-to-day operation of a professional print shop
* Experience working in a co-op and/or private print studio
* Writing skills for producing promotional catalogue material and to assist in documenting works

$8,625.00
