Call for Submissions – What did you say your name was?

What did you say your name was?

1. a word or a combination of words by which a person, place, or thing, a body or class, or any object of thought is designated, called, or known.

We all have to have a name. For many of us it’s an arbitrary label. For some it’s a reflection of our ancestry, our culture or religion. Our names may be random or they may have been carefully chosen by our parents to say something about us to the world. Perhaps you love your name. Maybe you don’t. Perhaps the meaning it had for your parents is lost on you.

What did you say your name was? is a project based on the self-discovery of writing about our names. How we react to our names – embracing them, changing them, rejecting them, can reveal much about who we think we are.
