Call for submissions – Petaluma Public Art

CALL TO ARTISTS:
REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS (RFQ)
PUBLIC ART PROGRAM
PETALUMA, CA
Dear Art Supporter,
The City of Petaluma and the Petaluma Public Art Committee (PPAC) are soliciting qualifications for a new public art piece that will be located on the site of the new Petaluma Fire Station located in downtown Petaluma.  This is a highly visible project and offers the opportunity for the artist’s work to be integrated into a new city building.  The budget for the art is approximately $70,000-$90,000.
Deadline: August 1, 2008
PLEASE SHARE THIS RFQ WITH OTHER COLLEGUES, ART ADMINISTRATORS
AND ARTISTS AS YOU SEE FIT.
The subject site is located at 307 Petaluma Boulevard South, and will be highly visible to all drivers and pedestrians as they approachPetaluma’s Historical Downtown.  The primary area of focus for the new art is the proposed 8 foot high by 40 foot long concrete masonry unit (CMU) wall located at the west side of the property that runs all the way up to the property line at Petaluma Blvd.  The wall will likely be finished with a brick face to match the Fire Station building façade.  Most likely there will be a cap detail to the wall and landscape planting in front.  There is interest in the idea that the wall’s art reflect the history and/or story of Petaluma and/or the Petaluma Fire Department.
