Artists’ Talks by Robert Snowden and collaborators Luther Thie and Kathrine Worel

Please join us for the artists’ talks at the new Kala Gallery located at 2990 San Pablo Avenue (around the corner from the Kala studios). The event is free and open to the public.

Current Fellowship Artist Robert Snowden, a self-described New York based dilettante, will present a talk titled:

The Unpunctual Past?!)
The Unpunctual Past(…)
The Unpunctual Past(.)

Robert has been in residency at Kala for the past six weeks while researching the history of obsolete/unpunctual punctuation and the piratical seizure of wave 104.9 F.M. Robert alerts us – the talk will be always relevant and never useful or it will be never relevant and always useful or it will be something else completely.

Luther Thie and Kathrine Worel have recently joined Kala’s Artist-in-Residence community. They will be discussing their recent work and how their respective practices have led to their collaboration at Kala. Currently in the planning stages for a large-scaleinstallation, the workexplores themes of wish fulfillment, futility and luck in the form of digital prints, video and kinetic sculpture.

Luther is both an artist and critical designer working in new media and other forms. He received the Emerging Artist award at ISEA/ze01 2006 for his project Acclair, a brain-scanning service. Other recent endeavors include an essay on LA Interchange, a real-time memorial that will be featured in Leonardo Journal of Arts, Sciences and Technology in the Creative Data special issue; and Tilted Pole a disorienting installation that featured a PGE power pole rotated 90 degrees within a gallery.

Kathrine is an interdisciplinary artist and curator whose most recent work explores the idea of surfaceas site, point of insertion and metaphor. Using the surface as a starting point, she explores thenarrative potentials of subjects as diverse as chance, desire, authenticity, ownershipand cute little girls in school uniforms. Kathrine has exhibited in the U.S, Europe and China and iscurrently working with OFF Space curatorial collective of which she is a founding member.
