INTRODUCTION TO ENCAUSTIC

Hylla Evans

Hylla Evans

Class #95: November 14-15: Saturday – Sunday 10am – 4pm

Tuition $192  Materials $80  Total Cost $272

This studio-based class focuses on the techniques used for encaustic painting, a process that uses beeswax to carry pigment. Because of its translucency, the wax can be embedded with layers of papers and found objects. Safety and shop practices, tools and their use, priming techniques, mixed media work, and a variety of paint application processes will be covered. Students will be provided with the knowledge needed to use this medium in their own studio. No prior experience with encaustic is required. Enrollment is limited to 15 students.

Hylla Evans is a paint maker for Evans Encaustics, teaches painting extensively in the Bay Area, New York, and Amsterdam, and for the last two years has been an Expert at the National Encaustic Conference at Montserrat College of Art in Massachusetts. She has developed new paints and grounds for encaustic painting and encourages each artist to experiment with the boundaries of this exciting medium.
