Handmade Travel Journals (November)

Handmade Travel Journals with April Gavin

This one-day introductory workshop will cover the basics of creating a small travel journal. Participants will have a choice of cover in either paper or fabric. We will then sew together our book block and add design elements that make the journal unique. In addition to having a lovely journal, participants will also leave with the skills and a basic bookbinder’s kit to make a journal of any size. This workshop is perfect for artists, writers, and travelers. All levels welcome, but some manual dexterity is needed (sewing, folding, etc.).

Accessibility – This class takes place in the San Pablo Community Classroom, located on the first floor. Please email classes@kala.org regarding any  accessibility needs prior to enrolling so we can assess if we are able to accommodate you safely and efficiently.

About the Instructor:

April Gavin is an artist and writer in Berkeley, California. She began making art at an early age, got sidetracked, and picked it all back up roughly fifteen years ago. She started bookbinding as a way to save money on sketchbooks and journals. Her art has been exhibited nationwide. She teaches children and adults out of her home studio and at locations around the east bay.
