Kala-fornia: State of the Art 2 An Exhibition and Auction to benefit Kala Art Institute

Kala Art Institute invites you to experience Kala-fornia: State of the Art 2, a two week exhibition of works by prominent California artists. The exhibition culminates on the night of Saturday, April 28th with a lively Gala Auction, featuring fine wine and exquisite foods. Channel 5 newscaster and artist, Dana King, will be the Mistress of Ceremonies. Proceeds support the educational and cultural programming of Kala Art Institute, a non-profit arts organization located in West Berkeley. For thirty-eight years, Kala’s artist residency programs, gallery exhibitions, lectures, classes and innovative youth arts-outreach in public schools has served an ever-expanding community. Kala’s international Fellowship and Artists-In-Residence programs continue to play a pivotal role in facilitating the creation of new work by artists in all media.

The exhibition Kala-fornia: State of the Art 2 opens to the public on April 12h with a Preview Party and silent bidding beginning at 6:00 pm. Works in a variety of media by over 100 contemporary California artists will be on view leading up to the Gala Auction on April 28th. At this year’s auction we are pleased to be honoring Special Guest Artists Deborah Oropallo and Rupert Garcia for their contributions to the Bay Area art world and beyond. The exhibition and auction features works by acclaimed artists including Christopher Brown, Enrique Chagoya, Squeak Carnwath, Willard Dixon, Katherine Westerhout, Binh Danh, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Hung Liu, Lewis De Soto, Catherine Wagner and John Roloff. A number of works by both emerging and established artists in a wide range of prices round out this exciting exhibition and auction. In addition to original artworks, art-related items will be included in both live and silent auctions, such as a chance to bid on a private tour of legendary Crown Point Press with founder Kathan Brown. This is a very special opportunity to visit this influential San Francisco fine print publisher, gallery and independent bookstore.
