Brian Barr

Brian Barr is an artist and independent curator based in Detroit. His work was featured in Totems at Vox Populi in Philadelphia and the national publication, New American Paintings. This year, Barr was awarded fellowships at the MacDowell Colony and the Kala Art Institute. Barr regularly collaborates with his wife, artist Lauren Rice. They recently presented their collaborative solo exhibition, Fake Empire at Flashpoint Gallery in Washington, DC. In June of 2014 Barr and Rice will present their collaborative solo exhibition DATA/TRANSFER/OBJECT at the Artist Alliance Inc., Cuchifritos Gallery in New York.

Barr is the founder and Director of Passenger, a residency program and center for contemporary art in Detroit set to open in 2015. Through Passenger and independently he has curated exhibitions at ORG Gallery, Purdue University, The Museum of New Art Detroit, and Co-curated with Rice at Delicious Spectacle Gallery in Washington, DC. Barr and Rice will be co-curating an exhibition at the Katzen Museum in Washington, DC in November 2014. Barr teaches for the Fine Arts Department at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI and is a regular contributor to The Studio Visit, an international webzine based in Berlin.
