Arts Enrichment- Arte y Cultura: Contemporary Explorations (Grades K-5)

Artwork by Jet Martinez: Caracol

Continuing to explore how artists communicate ideas, values, history, and culture through three and two dimensional artworks, students will learn and discuss contemporary Latin American/Latinx artists inspired by traditional/folk art, including Jet Martinez (USA/Mexico), Roberto Lugo (USA/Puerto Rico), Roberto Mamani Mamani (Bolivia) and others. In this interdisciplinary art class, students will  examine artworks that focus on various themes such as rituals and traditions, folk art/craft, identity, and environmental and social justice. Using a variety of media such as watercolor, color pencils, and acrylics, these young artists will create artworks of their own while gaining an understanding of an  artist’s ideas, creative process, and intentions. La maestra habla español.
