Botanical Drawing Workshop

Learn the magic of plants through close observation and applied drawing techniques! In this 6 week course, you will learn basic botany including flower morphology, fruit development and leaf structure. We will explore drawing through important concepts such as light source, perspective, values, contrast, detail hierarchy and composition to make botanical drawings feel dynamic and alive. This course is designed for those beginning their plant drawing journey or intermediate/advanced artists looking to refine their technique. The focus will be on accurate botanical realism but all styles and skill levels are welcome.

About the Instructor:

Based in Oakland CA, Hannah is a former metalworker turned botanical tattoo artist. She has been drawing and observing natural wonder for as long as she can remember. Bringing
important context to her experience in the artistic trades, Hannah develops connections to the natural world through craft. Hannah has shown work at 2727 gallery in Berkeley,
Comfort Station and DePaul Art Museum in Chicago and at SLOSS Metal Arts among others. As well as taught workshops/presented at the Seattle Art Museum, Penland School of
Art and Craft, the Local Economy in Oakland, the SMART Museum, the New School and many more. She believes that depictions of flora and fauna connect us to our natural world
and are a form of educational conservation. This is fundamental as part of her conservation practice.
