Explorations in Linocut

This freeform class is all about delving deeper into the art of linoleum block printmaking. You will have the opportunity to refine and expand your skills by completing one or two linocut print editions of your own design. Over the course of three studio sessions, students will learn how to consistently ink up linoleum blocks and register their prints, get experience printing with a press, and hone their color ink mixing skills. You will also learn creative ways to add additional colors to your prints by techniques such as the jigsaw method. Prior linocut printmaking experience is required.

About the Instructor:

Rich Fowler is a printmaker based in El Cerrito, California. An avid linocut printmaker, he’s drawn to the tactile process of hand carving linoleum and continues to be thrilled by the anticipation of peeling the paper off the inked block to see the resulting print. Recently, he has participated in group exhibitions in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles and Lincoln, NE. His work, often known by his studio name Boarding All Rows, can be found in private collections around the US and abroad. Rich teaches and writes about linocut online, does public print demonstrations from time to time, and is a member of the California Society of Printmakers.
