Freeform Fabric Dyeing

Freeform Fabric Dyeing with Njeri Akosua

This two session workshop will cover the fundamentals of professional fiber-reactive fabric dyeing, from fabric preparation to adding color. Learn folding and tying techniques to dye large pieces of fabric to create wall art pieces, fabric for sewing, or small household items. We’ll discuss color theory to assist in picking colors to use. Our final class will consist of dyeing any items students would like to bring from home.

About the Instructor:

Njeri Akosua is a multidisciplinary artist who works primarily with fabric and wearables, specifically dyeing and sewing. Her practice centers around reuse and most of her work is made from reused materials. Njeri has been teaching art to children and adults since 2016 and has taught classes in fabric dyeing, ceramics (both handbuilding and wheel-throwing), multi-media collage, and painting.
