Intro to Copper Etching: Softground (October)

If you love drawing and want to learn more about etching but aren’t sure where to start, this is the perfect workshop! Soft ground etchings are an approachable way to create an image since the image is drawn, using a regular pencil, directly onto a piece of drawing paper that is on top of a coated copperplate. This process produces prints with beautifully soft quality, fluid marks and excellent control over line weight and pressure. While the focus is on guiding you through the entire process of soft ground etching, the goal is to have fun, gain comfortability with the materials and the studio, and to get all your questions answered. Participants should arrive with an original drawing (line work with simple tonal range) at 7X7” that they are ready to turn into an etching.
