Open Book – New works by Daniel McClain
Kala Art Institute is proud to present new works by Daniel McClain at Milvia/ Addison Windows located at 2100 Milvia Street, Berkeley.
“The simple graphic quality and inherent physical presence and beauty of books have always fascinated me.
I’m interested in the book as a tactile object, its weight, and its feel. With this series of work, I simplified the forms of the book covers, exposed spines, stitching, and end papers that I have been working with recently. The painted images of familiar objects open up a question about what a book is and represents while the words and text that are the function of a book are removed. The recognizable imagery creates a dialog between the viewer and the object being viewed, opening up a discussion that I hope reveals something about the viewer and their time and space at a particular moment.”
