Sheng Lor

Sheng Lor is a Los Angeles-based artist working in fiber, sculpture and drawing. Her work is grounded in the traditions of textile-making, with a focus on weaving as both method and discourse. Having spent a decade working as a seamstress and production weaver, Lor approaches textiles as a medium that foregrounds labor and bridges personal history with ancestral and collective memories.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in Art from University of California, Davis, and her MFA from University of California, Los Angeles. She has received numerous awards, including a Helen Frankenthaler Fellowship, a Sankofa Fund for Cultural Preservation Grant, and a Surface Design Association Grant. Her artwork has been exhibited widely across California, including at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, the de Young Museum, SOMArts, the Palos Verdes Art Center, Pomona College, and other galleries and project spaces in and around Los Angeles.
