2018-2019 Veteran Residency Application

Veterans Residency Program
Kala Veterans Residency Program will provide four California Veteran artists with a residency with 24/7 access to Kala’s technical facilities. Veteran artists producing innovative work in all mediums including printmaking, digital media, installation art, social practice, photography, and book arts are encouraged to apply. The award is geared towards supporting artists experimenting in our studios and learning new skills.

Each Veterans Residency Program:
Cash Award: $1,000
Studio Residency: Up to four months of studio residency at Kala Art Institute with 24/7 access to our communal studio spaces.
Kala Class: One class or tutorial session that will provide training in a chosen area of printmaking and/or digital media.
Professional Development: Portfolio review or Professional Packet review with Kala staff person.
Community: Access to a community and network of approximately 75 artists working at Kala, participation in Kala events, and support by Kala staff.
Exhibition opportunities at Kala including the Artists’ Annual or similar opportunity.

Program Period:
The 2018-2019 Veterans Residency Program is October 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019. Artists must be able to schedule a 1 to 4 month residency during that time.

A Full Application Includes:
-Completed Application Form
-Statement of Interest about working at Kala Art Institute and how a residency will impact a specific project and/or how it will impact your overall practice.
-Artist CV
-Documentation of recent work (see specifications on the online application for guidelines according to discipline)
-Two References Contact Information
-$15 Application Fee

Please note:
Eligibility: California veterans that served in the U.S. military.
This is a studio residency only; housing is not included.
